S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008
In 2008, the Secure and Fair Enforcement Mortgage Licensing Act was passed; this Act encourages states to require national and state testing for mortgage licensing. In order to be a mortgage loan originator, licensees must pass a two part exam with national and state components. If the broker wishes to practice in more than one state, a separate component must be taken for each state.
